Story
The movie begins in 1975 when Yuan Ni and her husband are returning to the home in an apartment building where their twins are waiting for them. Just as they are about to enter the building, an earth quakes starts. Yuan Ni’s husband pushes her to safety and runs into the building just before it collapses. Yuan Ni’s husband is killed and her twins are trapped in the rubble. She is only able to save one of them and must make a heart breaking choice. Save her daughter Deng or save her son Da. She chooses to save her son.
Da was injured during the earth quake and loses his left arm. The twist to the plot is that Deng was not dead and wakes up in a line of bodies where she is found and adopted by a military couple. The story follows the lives of Yuan Ni, Da and Deng after the twins have grown up and how their lives are drawn together by the Sichuan earthquake 32 years later.
