Story
“Beginning of the Great Revival” was created by the state owned China Film Group and based on one of the key political moments in China’s modern history in a country where political freedom of speech is, to be kind, still in its infancy. This background gives the story a very unique feel that is apparent throughout the whole movie.

The story itself starts in 1911 with the collapse of the Qing Dynasty and finishes with the creation of the Chinese Communist Party in 1921. Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Li Dazhao, Chiang Kai-shek and others dream of a unified China and work to make that dream a reality while facing the turmoil of World War One, the loss of Qingdao and Kiaochow Bay to the Japanese and the plague of warlords that was sweeping over much of China.
