Story
During the Sino-Japanese war in 1943 the Japanese attack the city of Changde in Hunan province in an attempt to divert Chinese troops from other strategic battlefields. The battle rages back and forth with both sides occupying the city at different stages and leaves both armies broken in the end. The story follows the lives of both Chinese and Japanese soldiers and nurses during the battle and their experiences.
Most of the movie is battle scenes broken by scenes of generals and staff planning the battles, nurses healing the injured and romances between soldiers and nurses. Despite being made in China, Death and Glory in Changde is not a propaganda movie and does not depict the Japanese ad mindless thugs and murderers. The acting and characters are basic but engaging and the battle scenes are well done and free of computer generated images. Over all an enjoyable movie to watch.
