Background
Kelly Chan was born in Hong Kong where she attended primary school. She later moved to Japan to attend high school and to New York where she graduated from Parsons School of Design majoring in graphic design. She has an elder sister, a younger brother, husband Alex Lau who she married in 2008 after a 16 year relationship and two sons born in 2009 and 2012.

Acting Career
Kelly Chen’s career is focused on three interrelated areas, commercial acting, TV and movie acting and singing. Her commercial work started while she was still studying at Parsons in New York when she appeared in two commercials, one for Shanghai beer and the other for the Bank of Hong Kong. Her singing career started in 1995 when she returned to Hong Kong after graduation and was featured in a Jacky Cheung music video. Her acting career also started in 1995 when she appeared in her first film “What Ever Will Be, Will Be” and sang the movie’s theme song.
“What Ever Will Be, Will Be” was to be the first of many cases where Kelly Chen combined her singing and acting career together so they support each other. Many Hong Kong move stars where successful as singers and actors but very few were able to combine singing and acting this way. From 1995 to 1998 Kelly’s singing career took of and she released albums in both Cantonese and Mandarin, held concerts and went on a world tour.
After she appeared in the TV series “Don’t Cry Baby” in 1999-2000 with Japanese star Kyoko Fukada and performed two concerts in Japan during this time, Kelly Chen was also popular in Japan with a large fan base. By 2007 Kelly Chen was the 3rd highest paid entertainer in China with Jacky Chan coming first and Andy Lau second. Despite being a singing diva first and a movie star second, Kelly Chen has starred in over 25 successful movies and over 6 TV series and won a number of acting awards. Her movies include box office hits such as Infernal Affairs (2002) and Tokyo Raiders (200).
