Story
After biting of Scarface’s ear in Prison of Fire I, Chung is back again, this time doing hard labour with a group of mainlanders led by Dragon. One of the mainlanders, Skull, is directed by Officer Zau to kill a troublesome inmate and Dragon is framed for the death. Chung had previously lied to Dragon and told him the best way to escape was by jumping of the cliffs into the sea. Dragon breaks out using Chung’s method, survives the jump and heads for the jungle.
After Dragon leaves, Chung is framed as the snitch who informed on Dragon and he too escapes from prison, following Dragon into the jungle and catching up with him. Once on the run, the two of them must survive and decide what to do with their new found freedom.
Editor’s Review of Prison On Fire II – Score 7/10
Like the first movie, this movie is about the oppressive life in prison and the strong bonds of friendship that can be formed. There is also a new evil warder in this movie to replace the evil warder in the first movie. This time Chung pokes his eye out instead of biting his ear off.
Chow Yun-fat gives an excellent performance as the positive and good hearted inmate and there are some classic scenes such as the one where he is on a jungle hill top with Chen Chung Yung when they are both suffering from diarrhoea and going to the toilet. Although a very good company, Prison of Fire II is fairly grim because there is very little hope for most of the prison’s inmates and this is clearly felt in the movie.
