Plot
Shu is a not to clever but funny mechanic who lives in a small village in northern China that due to be demolished to make way for a coal mine. Shu is employed and having trouble finding a job and is also caught up in organizing his cousin’s wedding. Shu meets Xiaomei who is a mute massage parlour worker who slowly starts to fall in love with Shu. The two of them decide to get married and on the eve of their wedding, Shu is struck by visions of his dead brother and father. The visions are warnings and predictions and Shu takes on the unlikely role of the village’s prophet.
