Takeshi’s father is Japanese, his Mother Chinese Taiwanese and he was born in Taiwan and has Japanese citizenship. He is the third of three sons, went to a Taipei Japanese junior high school and then a Taipei American school. His multi ethnic background and education gives him a fluency in Mandarin, Japanese, English and several Chinese dialects.
Takeshi’s mother is a devout Buddhist and he himself converted to Buddhism in 1997 and became a practicing Buddhist. He is notorious for avoiding the media spotlight and to date, his only recorded comment on relationships is that he would probably be a stay home father eating meals at home and looking after the family.

Acting Career
Takeshi Kaneshiro’s career began when he started to do commercials while still in high school. He eventually quit school to take up a career in singing and acting . His first movie was “Executioners” in 1993 that started Maggie Cheung, Anita Mui and Michelle Yeoh and gave him an excellent introduction to Chinese audiences. He following up with the extremely successful “Chungking Express” (1994). He has since gone on to star in a number of block busters that include the highly successful “House of Flying Daggers” (2004) and “Red Cliff” (2008).
His career in commercial music started in 1992 and finished in 1993 after his successful debut as an actor. Takeshi is also successful as a model and spokesperson, representing Emporio Armani, Prada, Japanese Asia Airways, Mitsubishi and many other famous brands.
