Acting Career
Zhou Xun grew up in a normal family with her father working as a film projectionist and her mother as a sales person. Her parents wanted her to go to university but Zhou Xun went against their wishes and followed her interests in dramatic arts by attending the Zhejiang Arts Institute.
Her career had an early start when was picked for minor roles in the films Strange Tales Amongst Old and Desolate Tombs while still at school. She had larger roles after graduation when her career started in honest appearing in popular TV shows such as the Red Prescription (1997) and films like The Pampered Wife (1996).
She was already well established as one of China’s top actresses when she received international acclaim for her role in the 2000 hit movie Suzhou River and the Little Seamstress in 2002. Her role in the hit TV series The Legend of the Condor (2003) which was the number one TV series in China that year established her as one of China’s leading actresses. She broke in the Hong Kong film industry in 2005 when she starred in the hit musical film Perhaps Love. She has since won top acting awards in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan which is an unprecedented feat and has continued to star in highly successful films such as Painted Skin (2008) and The Great Magician (2012).
Zhou Xun is a successful singer and brand ambassador as well as a top actress. She has released several solo albums and performed for motion picture sound tracks. Channel have chosen her as their new ambassador, praising her for her fashion sense.
